Literacy Night is coming, and we are so excited! It is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. We would love for everyone to come (and dress in their pajamas!)

We are excited about our second Literacy Night at Burr coming November 7th. This will be a fun and exciting way for you to to spend time with your child on reading, storytelling, and word knowledge
A few years ago, our parent book club text was The Opposite of Spoiled by Ron Lieber. (I referenced it during Open House this year.) It spoke to the importance of teaching children financial literacy.
In Fairfield (and in many towns, cities, and states throughout the country and world), we teach writing through a writing workshop structure. Writing workshop is like any type of workshop in the working world.
Fairfield's writing curriculum is organized into a series of units of study. Each unit is an immersion into a different type (genre) of writing, and each unit lasts anywhere from 4-8 weeks.
I wanted to take a moment to share Burr's Behavior Handbook with you. The purpose of this handbook is to explain the behavior expectations at Burr for students. It also contains many suggestions to help adults support our behavior work.
Next week is Open House. This is a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher, learn about the work your child is doing in their classes, and learn some more global things about Burr School.
I would invite you to read an opinion piece recently written in the NY Times that speaks about how to raise a lifelong reader.
It was a wonderful week - both with Burr's Art Show and our Spring Concert. We also had a very successful lock down drill last Friday. Working in collaboration with the Fairfield Police, the entire school was able to lock down in less than a minute.
Happy almost June! We are getting down to the end of the school year.
Welcome to May! The next month is extremely busy and will pass quickly.
We are gearing up for the end of the year - which includes new and exciting beginnings and bittersweet endings.
We are looking for parent volunteers for Third Grade Literary Lunch Bunches during the month of May.
